Cllr Ellen Nicholson

Ellen Nicholson lives in Woking with her family, and has been a compassionate local champion for Mount Hermon for the last three years. She has worked closely with the NHS to support the construction of a new diagnostic centre at Woking Community Hospital, campaigned for the halting of a plan to reroute HGVs entering and leaving Days Aggregates through residential side streets, arranged for a new litter bin to be installed on East Hill, ensured the illuminated signage at Lion Retail Park is switched off at night and advocated for residents in issues including planning applications, disabled access and environmental issues. She has also supported refugees who have settled in Woking, and is working on a plan to improve drainage issues in Mount Hermon Nature Reserve.

When the current Liberal Democrat administration took over in 2022, Ellen took on the exciting role of Portfolio Holder for Living Well. With a professional background in the NHS, Ellen has worked hard to promote opportunities for leisure and wellbeing across Woking. She brokered a deal to ensure the sustainable continuing operation of Pool in the Park, worked with several organisations to enable community assets to be run by the community groups that use them in a financially sustainable way. In addition to this, Ellen serves as a governor of Ashford and St Peter’s hospitals and a member of the Police and Crime Panel, holding the Police and Crime Commissioner to account.

Ellen also brought forward a motion for Woking Borough Council to support the national White Ribbon Campaign, raising awareness of violence against women and girls.

Ellen is delighted to restand as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Mount Hermon in this May’s local elections, and to continue working with the existing highly successful Lib Dem team. A vote for Ellen will help to ensure residents of Mount Hermon re-elect an energetic and highly effective local councillor to continue working hard and deliver for them.
