Lee warns on local health cuts

6.30.00pm GMT Mon 12th Dec 2005

Anne Lee, Parliamentary Spokesperson for Woking Liberal Democrats has spoken out against cuts in health care. She said "Yet again we are being threatened with cuts to patient care and more reorganisations."

Anne is particularly worried about the expected very cold winter. She said "This is the time when we see the most pressure on hospitals and admissions rise. We will see much more pressure on beds than ever before, and on our nursing staff. The situation could get very grave indeed."

"We could be planning state of the art health care, close to where people live. Constant reorganisations of the primary care trusts, initiatives such as 'choose and book' and the cost of trying to create for a nationwide NHS data base are eating into funding that should be spent on local health care."

"I have supported the endeavour of the local PCT to establish a new NHS dental surgery in Sheerwater. Queues of patients to register show that this is the kind of endeavour that we ought to be encouraging".
