LIBERAL DEMOCRATS QUIZZED ON WHAT THEY WANT FOR WOKING5.33.00pm GMT Fri 28th Jan 2005
"How will my life be different if I vote in a Liberal Democrat Government?", "What do you want for the armed forces?", "Where do you stand on the National Health Service?", "Should I vote for the person I like, or the policies they represent?" were just some of the many questions that were thrown at Dr Anne Lee, Woking's Parliamentary Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats, when she spoke to 120 sixth formers at Sir William Perkins school in Chertsey. Anne spoke honestly about what got her into politics, what she sees as the major differences between the three parties and why she believes that Woking could have a Liberal Democrat MP at the next General Election. She described some of the case-work that is coming her way because of the National Health Inquiry which she is currently conducting across Woking, and said how important it is that we have more women in Parliament. After the lecture the Head of the Sixth Form, Mrs Janice Creagh, thanked Dr Lee for coming and said "she really held their interest. She has clearly not lost her touch as a Headmistress" she added "It was clear that Dr Lee really got them to engage with the issues, and to discover (if they had not already done so) that politics is fascinating, challenging and vitally important. I think she might well have earned herself quite a few votes into the bargain!."
